I just came across a really interesting article from Debbie Phillips-Donaldson, editor-in-chief of Petfood Industry. She was addressing the possibility of incorporating insects into dog and cat foods as a sustainable protein source. I don’t know about this; I’m curious what other people think. As consumers have shied away from animal byproducts and now desire human-grade meats in their pet foods, producers are competing with human food producers for high-quality meats. With human demand for meat and dairy products expected to continue rising, it looks pretty unsustainable. So some are looking to insects as a way to provide cheaper and perhaps more ethical protein. Here’s the article. I looked online to see if anyone was selling this stuff yet, so far no luck, although it looks like something called Entofeed is in the works?
